Getting a Commercial Driver’s License
I've have been a van driver for about 9 years now. I enjoy it, and am making good money, but I know there isn’t much chance of promotion. The nice pay checks have been enough to keep me going this long, but now that I have a family to think about, it isn’t enough. That's why I'm going to take my commercial drivers license test as soon as I can.
Getting a commercial drivers license is the way to go, I feel, because it will open up a lot of new job opportunities - and a larger wage than I'm making right now. Then I can start saving up to follow a dream of mine to eventually become an owner/operator of my own rig. Of course, to achieve this I first must get a commercial drivers license.
I’ve been told that the commercial driver’s license test is actually pretty hard. I don't want to take any risk of failing here, so I'm going to take a training course, so that I am prepared. I've been checking around, and have found that I have a lot of commercial driver’s license training courses to choose from. Some of the classes can be done onsite, while others are conducted entirely over the Internet. In either case, the courses are designed to prepare us for the written part of the exam, which is really what I need.
I went to a few of these commercial drivers’ license training websites to preview the materials that are included in the training packages. Many of the training programs I looked at allowed you to do sample tests that contained actual questions from previous exams, rather than just speculative questions that might be covered on test day.
Anyway, I want to be fully prepared. It’ll make me more confident on the real test, and the questions will already be familiar to me, making the whole experience a lot less of a worry. In other words, I'll gladly pay the enrolment fee for what I will learn on this course!
CDL applicants are also expected to be tested on their driving skills, which I'm sure I'll be able to handle without too much trouble. There are separate training courses for this component of the test, so those of you who have never driven a larger vehicle before will be able to get some experience.
Once I enrol for a commercial driver’s license training course, it should take just a few weeks to work through everything in preparation for the test. That means I could have my CDL in a couple of months, and be well on my way to fulfilling my dream!
