Become a Better Driver by attending an Intensive Driving Course
Looking at the yearly stats for road traffic accidents can show just how dangerous the roads can be. The number of vehicles on the road in any given hour are astronomical. Even without any drunk drivers, those who speed or drive carelessly, there would still be many accidents. The majority of us try to drive responsibly. The trouble is that many drivers don’t have experience to handle emergency situations, when they arise. The standard driver training isn’t sufficient to prepare you for when your car looses control on the ice dead ahead. The normal driver's training program only provides instruction on normal driving conditions and the rules of the road. Recently, some states and counties have developed intensive driving courses. These courses should be the wave of the future. Let's take a look at some of the reasons.
Intensive driving courses are put together on mock roadways, away from real traffic, where real life situations can be simulated safely. Because the course is not on the roadways, obstacles can be set up so those who are learning can negotiate them and copy a potentially deadly situation the they may sometime face when on a real road. And Safety here is key. The intensive driving course allows for mistakes. Students can practice until they get it right without fear of injury.
Let's say you're driving down the highway when a wild animal suddenly leaps into the road. Do you know what to do? Do you take evasive action? What if there's another car in the oncoming lane? A normal driving lessons cannot prepare you for this type of emergency. An intensive driving courses can.
Bad weather can also be a danger and can prompt situations where you don't have time to think about what you should do. Do you know what to do if you hit ice on a bridge overpass and start skidding out of control? What if you suddenly encounter a low-lying area of roadway that's flooded and your car starts to hydroplane? Intensive driving courses can prepare you to deal with these emergencies, so that you can act quickly and skilfully, and perhaps can save your life.
Intensive driving courses are highly recommended for young people who are brand new to driving. Most insurance companies recognize that drivers who complete such a program are far better prepared and this could mean a discount on the premium. The intensive programs provide you with experience in a safe setting that makes you ready to deal with a real life dangerous road emergency. This makes you a better risk and you'll enjoy a more favourable insurance rate. Which is something any young driver would welcome.
