I Finally Get an American Express Card.

About a week ago I made a decision, on a whim, to get another credit card. I haven’t ever had an American Express card and Thought it was about time that I got one. Friends of mine who have the card think they are great and the TV ads always seem convincing. And so, I got on my laptop and started to trawl the internet to find an American Express card that would be ideal for me. It’s then that I found out that American Express has thousands of different types of cards to choose from. Okay, perhaps not thousands - but a lot more than I want to search through. Some had an annual fee; others didn’t. Some of them had no limit to spending and others had a capped credit limit. Some of them have all kinds of different reward programs that you can choose from as well. You can pick from lots of different designs and even get your picture on a card too.

I never thought that choosing a credit card could be so hard. I mean, American Express had so many different types of cards to choose from; it was like a mine field. I spent most of the evening reading the information for all of the types of cards that American Express apparently owns. I finally choose a one that has a great balance transfer plan. The standard interest rates were a little steep, but I was offered a very low rate for the first year. After that first year, the interest rate would rise. I knew that either I would only use my card for emergencies after that happens or cancel it. Many people jump back and forth between credit card companies, trying to get the best deals and bargains.

American Express seems to be keen to get more customers as well. I don’t why they expect us to pay an annual fee, but American Express have quite a few cards that require payment of one. This makes sense for if it is for a business and they don’t cap the spending limit. But, I can’t see a point for charging an annual fee for a personal card that has limited spending. Aren’t they making enough money payments from the interest rates? I suppose I don’t own a credit card company and I cannot speak for them. I simply know that I now own an American Express card and if I can actually believe what I see on the commercials, they are accepted almost anywhere. I’m quite sure that for my first year of having that low interest rate, I will test that out quite a bit.
