Computer Addiction and its Effects
Personal computers and Internet access are more affordable than they have ever been, which has lead to more and more people having both at home. Nowadays, it is almost impossible to work from your home with out a computer. Now I know not everyone who has a computer needs it for work at home, many other people use it for other things. There are many people who spend hour after hour online, which can be a problem with the dynamic of any family. Having an addiction to using computers is very real, and can cause problems in even the strongest of families and relationships.
Many mock computer addiction, but as I said, it can be a very real thing. Some come home from work and barely acknowledge their partners before they log on and check their email. This is something that starts small and can end with one partner spending all day and night in front of their computer screen. You better believe that won’t be long before this type of computer addiction leaves the other partner feeling neglected, and may lead to separation or divorce, if married and something does not change.
It’s not only adult who a prone to computer addiction. There are many teens that spend more and more of their time online, usually on chat rooms or playing games, rather than hanging out with friends, playing sports, and interacting with their families. Many more of them have a addiction to computer instant messaging, forums, and sites like Facebook. Not only are they not socialising with real people in real life, they are neglecting homework and forgetting what it is like to interact with others that they meet.
If you are spending more time in front of your computer screen than sitting on the sofa watching a film with your husband, wife or your entire family, you may want to consider that you may be addicted to your computer. Try coming home from work one day without visiting your computer to and see how you feel about it. If you find that you can’t stay away from it, can’t stop thinking about it, or become annoyed or aggravated, as if you are missing something, you may want to consider that you have a computer addiction. This is when you might want to take some time to think about what really means the most to you, and then make the changes you need to make. You don’t have to give up surfing online or playing games, but there is always something to be said about moderation and harmony in the home.
