A Short Guide to Free Desktop Themes
A lot of people aren’t aware just how much they able to customise their computers. Most people know how to change the desktop wallpaper, change the default font or add a screensaver, but few understand that basically it is possible to change virtually every aspect of the way your computer desktop looks. You can also change mouse icons, backgrounds, wallpaper, colour schemes, event sounds, , and many more computer settings. And what’s more is that if you do it all just right, you can really create a very unique style that make your personal computer, truly personal.
A lot of people aren’t aware just how much they able to customise their computers. Most people know how to change the desktop wallpaper, change the default font or add a screensaver, but few understand that basically it is possible to change virtually every aspect of the way your computer desktop looks. You can also change mouse icons, backgrounds, wallpaper, colour schemes, event sounds, , and many more computer settings. And what’s more is that if you do it all just right, you can really create a very unique style that make your personal computer, truly personal.
One of the best way you can do this is with free desktop themes. A free desktop theme is basically a selection of icons, graphics, and sounds, put together in a particular way, which ,when installed on you desktop, will give it a new and original look. The first one I ever used was a Formula 1 theme. It had a mouse icon that looked like a Ferrari F1 car for when pages were loading, and a pointer that looked like a chequered flag. It also had free desktop wallpaper with a picture of the Monaco racing circuit and the finish line with two car racing for it, and a bunch of different entertaining car sounds. I could choose to use the different elements in any way that I wanted, and when I set them up all together, it made my whole computer into a tribute to Formula 1 racing.
I was, and still am, really into car racing, but basically, you can set up a desktop up in any way you see fit. It is even possible to make your own free desktop theme if you want. I have a friend who is a big lover of the woods of the Pacific Northwest. He decided to make his own free desktop theme. He collected together different pictures of trees and animals, mainly from ones he had taken on trips to the region. Then he uploaded different sound of the wild animals along with the pictures onto his computer desktop. He even made his own mouse icons like tree frogs, wolves, and other animals. When he was done, he had created one of the best nature desktop themes I had ever seen.
Many people think that doing something like this for themselves is too difficult, but you'd be surprised how easy it is. As a matter of fact, most free desktop themes are made by people just like you! You can find many different sound files all over the Internet, which can be used to customize your desktop. This is the same for images. It’s even possible to program your own icons in a graphics editing program. It might take you a few hours to figure out and a few more to do the work, but once done, you will be glad with the result. If you have to sit at your computer all day, it really helps to give it a personal touch.
